| Today we (Julianne and I) made SOPAPILLAS!! It was so much fun!! The end. | | |
| Wow, today was interesting. Probably the most interesting day I've had all week. The morning was pretty blah just went to class. But then I went to the Brenham State School with my psychology class. It's a place where adult mentally challenged people live. I rode there (it's about an hour away) with a girl who was Blake's Impact partner who is in my class and her roommate drove. And Ryan May came with us too, he's also in my class. It was kind of a random bunch, but it was cool. So we were driving along and all of a sudden we hear this noise that sounds like machine guns but I just thought we were driving over those little ridges in the road that wake you up if you fall asleep at the wheel. But I looked behind us and the tire had blown out. By the grace of God, there was a tire place like 50 yards away, if that. Julie had to buy a new tire because her spare had a nail in it and the tire on the care had split. It was really weird. So we got the tire put back on and we made it to the state school. When we got there it was really awkward b/c there were way more students than residents. But gradually more residents came and we ate hot dogs with them.
The first guy I met told me his name was Bishop Lynch, but come to find out his real name is Leslie Peach. I sat at a table with a guy named Jason who was autistic and a guy name G. At first we couldn't figure out what Jason's name was because every time we would ask he would just smile at us. Finally, we realized that his name was written backwards in permenant marker on the inside of his shirt. And we asked if his name was Jason and sure enough he said yes. He liked to eat. He ate so fast you would have thought he hadn't eaten in weeks. And he would eat anything. This girl gave him some cookies had ketchup and relish on them and all he said was "sticky" when he touched the ketchup and then he ate them. G ate about 5 hot dogs, no joke and like 3 cookies and a lot of chips. We found out that G likes to dance too. So does Jason. They had a dance the night before. Then there was this other guy who kept burping at the end of the table repeatedly. And all of a sudden he just throw up whatever he'd eaten about 2 minutes before that. When he got up to clean up, Julie just picked up his plate covered in barf and threw it away. she's brave.Gina had an interesting experience with a man who came up to her and grabbed her hand. Then he started rubbing her leg and put his head in her lap. It was funny to watch but i would have been very uncomfortable if I was her. She wasn't the only one though, he was friendly with lots of girls. He carried a big notebook with lots of pages with writing on them. But he was a man of few words. Then there was Craig, he looooved candy, stuffed his pockets full. And he loved to dance. He would just stand there and start dancing. They were all fascinating. Many of them are very happy people, but it was very sad too. One of the other students asked if Jason was going home for thanksgiving and although I couldn't understand his reply, I was almost positive that he wouldn't be going home. Most of the people there don't have homes to go to because they have out lived their families and have no where else to go or their families dont know how to take care of them. But the state school seemed like a good place so Im glad they can go there and be taken care of.
On the way home we passed the Blue Belle Creamery which is in Brenham. I want to go back there sometime, I think it would be really neat. Some of the residents at the state school actually work there, which i think is really cool. The route we took home was really pretty. We discovered that the shadow of the car made it look like a monster truck. And Gina took a picture. We started talking about cows peeing and then we SAW one peeing, he was backed up right to the road, jsut for us. That was pretty funny. My first experience with peeing cows. It's hard to describe in words but overall the trip was an adventure. I need to go study for an ugly history test tomorrow.
| I hit the bullseye on monday!! I was so excited!! I said a little prayer that God would show me what I was doing wrong and what do ya know I was aiming from the left side of the string instead of the right side of the string! Amazing! I'm taking a break from studying for psychology. The test is on retardation, autism, eating disorders, and alzheimer's...depressing, I know. But interesting too. I don't think I could work at a mental hospital...I'm too emotional. I might start crying or something which i'm sure would only make the situation worse if they saw me crying for what would seem like no reason to them. Actually, I am going to the Brenham State School next week with my psych class. That is where many of the mentally ill live and recieve treatment. I'm excited, but a little unsure of what to expect. We get to serve them lunch so I'm glad we're actually going to do something for them as opposed to staring at them as if they are in a zoo or something. Well on that thought, I best get back to the studying bit. Happy homecoming to all my MHS friends! | | |
| Howdy! As we say here in aggieland. lol. It's so funny really and truly to walk around and here people say howdy to each other. It doesn't happen all the time, we're not robots although many of you would like to believe we've been brainwashed (not true!), but it is fun to do when ur in a goofy mood. Or just to be cordial and say it back. The corp pretty much has to say it, which i think is kind of nice actually. It keeps the tradition alive.
Today my hopes of one day going to the olympics for archery were crushed. I pretty much sucked it up AND injured myself too. I have a nice little welt on the inside of my elbow. Kind of looks like i have ring worm or something. I'm excited about the game this weekend (vs SMU) and seeing all of you wonderful people coming down here. I hope we BTHO those mustangs. We need a morale boost after Clemson. Come on Ags!!
I'm going to bed. Maybe i'll be inspired by dreams of hitting the bullseye! :)
